Angels in America
This year, Angels in America took home Best Revival of a Play, Best Actor in a Play and Best Featured Actor in a Play. The show by Tony Kushner takes place in two parts, and tickets must be purchased separately for each show. Though the storyline in full takes around four hours to complete, the timeless pathos and ethos of this script prove why it won Best Revival in 2018. Run – don’t walk – to the Neil Simon Theatre to catch Angels in America, starring Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield.

The Band’s Visit
“Welcome to Nowhere!” Winner of Best Musical, The Band’s Visit finds inspiration from the 2007 film of the same name. Receiving the most Tony Award wins of any show this season, The Band’s Visit explores the intersection of two diverse cultures when an Egyptian band gets lost in the middle of the dessert in the tiny Israeli town of Betah Tikva. Helmed by Tony winners Katrina Lenk, Ari’el Stachel and Tony Shalhoub, this beautiful show celebrates the way music brings us together.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel
Winner of Best Choreography for Justin Peck and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Lindsay Mendez, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel brings the classic musical back to the stage through a new lens. Lovers of the Golden Age of Broadway will rejoice as they witness Peck’s magnificent and ethereal choreography come to life and see a legendary story revived in New York.

Once On this Island
Parables of love and resilience are always relevant, no matter the year. In 2018, this idea rings true, notably with the Tony Award-winning revival of Once On This Island. The one-act musical explores the tale of Ti Moune, a young, island-dwelling peasant girl whose life spins out of control when she saves the life of one of the island’s richest inhabitants. Follow as this powerful production – staged in the round – pulls at your heartstrings as the gods of the island help Ti Moune find her way.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical
There’s a reason this 2017-premiering musical garnered 12 Tony nominations. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical crafts an imaginative retelling of the beloved cartoon with poignant themes, magnificent pageantry and clever stage design. Plus, each song from this show features a different author of gigantic acclaim, including: John Legend, Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper, to name three. (David Zinn took home Best Scenic Design for his remarkable reimagining of Bikini Bottom on a theatrical stage.)

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
In 2014, Jessie Mueller received the Tony Award for her portrayal of Carole King in this two-time Tony-winning musical (the second going to Sound Design). As its title suggests, this show explores the fascinating, inspiring, and – at times – tumultuous life and career of legendary singer-songwriter Carole King. For over four years, this story of overcoming the odds and pursuing one’s passion has delighted longtime fans of King – and newcomers to her tunes. Looking for a toe-tapping, ear-pleasing musical? This one’s for you.

The Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon is known across the globe for its raunchy humor and plot lines. This musical, penned by the minds behind the acclaimed television series South Park, won Best Musical in 2011 – among numerous other nods, like Best Book, Best Original Score and Best Direction of a Musical. The story has stood the test of time, selling out nightly on Broadway seven years after it landed those coveted awards.

Come From Away
On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck America – and one particular community in Canada responded with an outpouring of love and hospitality to thousands of stranded travelers. Come From Away unearths that story of Gander, Newfoundland, and its selfless community members who offered up their homes, belongings and hearts to house those travelers whose planes were grounded after the attacks of 9/11. Winner of Best Director for Christopher Ashley last year, Come From Away weaves a tale of emotion and truth that should not be missed.

Hello, Dolly!
“Put on your Sunday clothes” and see the 2017 winner of Best Revival of a Musical, Hello, Dolly!, before it closes this fall. Currently starring Broadway legend Bernadette Peters in the seminal role of Dolly Levi, this revival brings back that classic “Golden Age of Musicals” pizzazz, complete with magnificent costumes, remarkable vocals and unreal choreography – including the iconic “Waiter’s Gallop.”

Kinky Boots
A message of staying true to your own heart and embracing your genuine passions. Is there a better show for 2018? Kinky Boots – Best Musical of 2013 – takes the narrative explored in the film of the same name and expands it into an all-out rock ’n’ roll concert, with music written by Grammy Award and Tony Award winner, Cyndi Lauper.
