Before there was the famed Las Vegas Strip, there was good ol’ Downtown Las Vegas. Although they’re only a few miles apart, the two locations have entirely different personalities of their own. The Strip is known for its glitz-n-glamour, five-star hotels, restaurants and entertainment. But just because you won’t find a Louis Vuitton or Restaurant Guy Savoy in Downtown Las Vegas, doesn’t mean it’s anything but lackluster. In fact, the Fremont Street Experience in downtown shines on its own.
I had the opportunity to venture into the five-block-long district packed with historic casinos, bars and restaurants. Draped overhead was a giant LCD video display which added to Fremont Street’s nightly musical entertainment. We also got to see the exciting new SlotZilla Zipline, where brave souls flew down the brightly lit street. Of course, it’s the original hotels—the ones that have withstood the test of time—that continue to make Downtown Las Vegas a beloved spot in the city.
